Share this:

This short video series was created by the Asian Pacific Institute on Gender-Based Violence for survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, and dating violence — and anyone who may need an interpreter — to understand how to work with interpreters when seeking help.

Video Topics:

A. The role of the interpreter: Explains what interpreters do and why their role matters.

B. Interpreter Ethics: Rules interpreters must follow, such as confidentiality, accuracy, and impartiality.

C. How to work with an interpreter: tips for clear and effective communication through an interpreter.

D. How to address issues with bad interpretation: Offers guidance on what to do if any problems with interpretation arise

Advocates, attorneys, law enforcement, courts, and medical professionals often rely on interpreters, but survivors with limited English may not know what to expect. These videos, available in-language and voiced over by real interpreters, will guide you step by step so you can feel safe, respected, and understood when asking for help.
